We all yearn to live a meaningful life and having one person believe in you inspires you to be better. While I was training a group of mentors for an organisation one of the activities I asked them to do was to share a meaningful encounter with a mentor and why it was successful. I had trained more than 50

mentors in this organisation and what kept coming up more than 90

per cent of the time was that they had a mentor who believed in them, even though they did not believe in themselves. This made them work hard and pursue goals they thought impossible. What I also observed was how their eyes shone when they shared these encounters – it was as if the experience was happening all over again.

The people who inspire us give us a lifeline, they give us freedom to believe in ourselves and to know that we can achieve anything when we set our minds to it. These are the big questions to be asked of ourselves:

Are we ready to create beyond our wildest imagination?

Are we ready to accept the invitation to be of service and make a difference?

When we develop ourselves it’s not only about us, it’s also about those close to us, whether it’s a team or immediate family. When we allow our growth to have an impact on someone else it has a ripple effect that will benefit communities, even countries. We do not develop only for our own personal reasons but also for the world.
